Melania Trump, born Melanija Knavs on April 26, 1970, in Novo Mesto, Slovenia (then part of Yugoslavia), grew up in the town of Sevnica. From an early age, Melania showed interest in fashion and modeling, participating in local fashion shows as a teenager. She attended the High School of Design and Photography in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, before briefly studying architecture at the University of Ljubljana. However, her passion for modeling led her to leave her studies and pursue a full-time career.

At 18, Melania signed a contract with a modeling agency in Milan, where her career began to take off. She worked in major fashion capitals across Europe, including Paris and Milan, appearing in high-profile fashion magazines and campaigns. In 1996, she moved to New York City to expand her modeling career internationally. In New York, she worked with top photographers and graced the covers of several renowned magazines.

In 1998, Melania met real estate mogul Donald Trump at a party during New York Fashion Week. Their relationship attracted media attention, and after several years of dating, the couple married on January 22, 2005, in a lavish ceremony at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, Florida. The wedding was a highly publicized event, with celebrities, politicians, and public figures in attendance. Melania wore a custom Christian Dior gown that was widely covered in the press.

On March 20, 2006, Melania gave birth to the couple’s only child, Barron William Trump. She embraced her role as a mother, often emphasizing her dedication to raising Barron and managing the responsibilities of their family life. When Donald Trump announced his candidacy for President of the United States in 2015, Melania initially took on a low-profile role in the campaign. After her husband won the presidency, Melania officially became the First Lady of the United States on January 20, 2017.

As First Lady, Melania launched her “Be Best” initiative in May 2018, focusing on the well-being of children, including their online safety and the issue of cyberbullying. The initiative highlighted the importance of kindness and respect in the digital age, particularly on social media platforms. Despite some criticism due to her husband’s often combative Twitter presence, Melania remained committed to promoting her cause.
